I think thick curtains could help in your house to save heat because they would trap heat in on cold days. I also think it would help in our school to have heavy, dark curtains to block out light when it is a bright, sunny day and we can't see our projector screens. We could close the school curtains at night in the winter to keep heat in.

my insulation idea
My insulation idea is that classroom lights could adjust how much light they give off. By installing a special light sensor that could know how much light was coming from outside the lights in room would automatically adjust so that they would give out just enough light. They would dim automatically on bright days and go brighter on dull days. They could also be adapted to have panels on them that could gather heat and release it when it is cold.

Clips to door . To take it off press one of the 3 buttons on the snakes head for easy, medium or hard. It will ask a maths question. Type in the answer on the numbers on its back and press submit. If you get it correct it will come off the door and a tick will appear on the screen.
wall curtain
You could put special display wall hangings on the walls in old, draughty schools to keep heat in. the wall hangings would hook on to a wall. The inside would be stuffed with insulating material and the outside would have a range of bright reflecting colours. Plastic pockets and velcro would allow teachers to use them as a display space. This idea is good for keeping your school warm with out spending more money on heating. It will also help teachers create bright, colourful displays.

V.H.S
My insulation innovation is the V.H.S (Virtual heating system) which takes heat from a computer
or T.V. and channels it into a specially adapted radiator and uses it to heat your house!!

Hi I want to tell you my idea to save energy. I thought that we could put in air vents on ground floor with Radiators in the air vents and the heat will go up the vents and to the top floors and the cold air will go back down the air vents. This would mean we needed less heaters on top floor classrooms.

Tinted Windows
In class we are learning about insulation and my idea is Tinted Windows. Dark colours absorb heat & light so if we tint the windows then we are cutting down on costs for heating & also saving energy. The windows can be adjusted by remote control to let more or less light and heat into the room.<-The 2 Windows that are further away are tinted and the nearest isn't.
<- It is the other way round with these Windows
consumed shades
My idea is to get thick, non-porous light shades to trap the heat inside the shade. It will then have a switch which lets you radiate trapped heat from the sun into the room when it is cold so it will heat up the room. The shades will also have lights in them that can be charged by the Sun. To change the bulb you have to unscrew the bottom. Once you have put the new bulb in you have to screw the bottom back on the shade. Be careful to put it on properly.

Reflector Panels and curtains over the radators
The idea that i have is to trap heat in reflector panels. My reflector panels would bounce heat from outside into the room because you would put them on the window sill and angle them so that they reflected light and heat into the room.

One other idea I have to save heat is to keep curtains away from the radiators because if you put the curtains over the radiators the heat will get trapped in the curtains, rushes up the curtains and if the window is opened the heat will go out the window.

CarpetsThis carpet can trap heat like wool, just like a sheep. Sheep can insulate heat with wool and their body stays warm. This is why people shave off the wool in summer. They must be boiling!
Closing Doors
Closing doors can also help trap the heat to keep the room nice and warm. Especially when theres a lot of people in the room. You know body heat!
Heavy Curtains
Heavy curtains insulate heat by keeping it in. Just remember don't let the curtain fall over the radiator because the warmth will be trapped next to the window

Le Insulating Carpet
This is a carpet that can absorb heat and let it out when it gets to a certain temperature. You may programme it to whatever temperature you want. Lets say you chose 25 degrees. When it gets above 25 degrees the carpet will absorb the heat. If it gets below 25 degrees it will let the heat out. It will let in/out heat until the room is at the right temperature. If you wish you can also adjust the temperature at which it absorbs or radiates heat.

Doll's House Experiment

In class we carried out an insulation experiment on a doll's house. We borrowed a specially adapted doll's house from Bob Kibble at Moray House. It had holes drilled into its attic to allow a temperature sensor to be inserted.
First we put two candles into the doll's house and no insulation in its attic, lit the candles, shut the doors and switched the sensor on for 15 minutes.
Next we did the same thing but with insulation in the attic. We were quite suprised find out how much heat was trapped in the house when we had insulation in the attic.
Did you know that a quater of the heat from a house is lost from its roof?

You could make a draught excluder, a strip of rubber on the side of the classroom door this would also act as a height chart for the children in centimetres. This would keep heat in and the children could measure how tall they are.
You could also have a band of rubber along the bottom of the
door where you could measure your feet.

Cat Flap
Hi, i am a P7 pupil from Sciennes Primary School. Our science project this term is insulation so our science teacher has asked each of us to think up an idea that will be heat efficient and money saving.I have come up with an idea that cat lovers might worship!
This is it...
Cat's cat flaps are one of the most heat efficient cat flaps you can get. They have a draught proof rubber seal along with insulated fibre glass. As well as all of that, the cat flap comes with a remote control you can attach to the cats collar so that when the cat walks past the cat flap it will automatically open. You can also lock it manually.
THANKS!

Introduction
Hi this P7B from Sciennes Primary in Edinburgh (Scotland),
Over the past month we have been doing a mini survey on insulation. Insulation is when we try to trap heat or cold in something. Our school has huge heating bills so we are interested in trapping heat in. The school has had a professional energy survey carried out and has already had draught proofing put on our windows and a new heating system installed in our huts. We are also waiting for our attic to be insulated.
The most recent thing we have been working on is creating innovations for insulation. People in our class have come up with a range of ideas for improving insulation from display mats which insulate walls to insulated cat flaps for your home.
We hope you enjoy reading about our ideas and maybe even fancy adding some of your own. If you are a manufacturer or entrepreneur you might even want to develop one of our ideas.
